Description: Recorded 1965 with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra under George Szell. She was 50!! Interesting that a couple of years ago Renee Fleming picked this recording as one of her 8 "Desert Island Discs". |

Glenmed ::: Favorites 2007-12-30 04:52:11 By criticising 8:27 as too fast it appears that you condemn Popp, Fleming, Auger and Freni who sang "Im Abendrot" at a similar pace. And what do you say of Caballe, Janowitz, Jurinac, Marton, Nilsson, Steber, Studer, Kanawa? - all under 8 minutes! The original Flagstad/Furtwangler was less than 7 minutes! The Norman/Mazur at nearly 10 minutes is exceptional. Please, your statement of preference is more valued if you do not appear to condemn all these other fine musicians. __________________________________________________
danielortizruiz ::: Favorites 2007-12-29 16:50:09 too fast, the best version is Masur whith the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and Norman in 1982. __________________________________________________

portbaires ::: Favorites 2007-11-01 21:12:58 The death of Isolde of Wagner and this Abendrot of Strauss are maybe the most incredible human voice music conjunction in the world. This for me is a demonstration of the existance of God and the human soul. No machine can think or write this. __________________________________________________
